SUMMARY

- Rome was built on seven hills, which formed the heart of the ancient city. The Vatican City, however, is located on the western side of the Tiber River and is not on any of these hills.

- The Seven Hills of Rome are: Aventine Hill, Caelian Hill, Capitoline Hill, Esquiline Hill, Palatine Hill, Quirinal Hill, and Viminal Hill. The Vatican City is set on the Vatican Hill, which is not one of the traditional seven hills.

- Palatine Hill is the centermost of the seven hills and is considered the first nucleus of the Roman Empire. It houses ancient Roman ruins and monuments such as the Palace of Domitian and the House of Augustus. Capitoline Hill, on the other hand, is known for its Renaissance-era attractions and is home to the Temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus.
