After the prophecy that "a child will be born from a virgin who will save the world through his prayers and redeem souls through his intercession," many years later, a daughter named Maryam Mogesa was born, a woman who worshipped God. Her mother and father raised that daughter in the fear of God and in knowledge until she reached the age of maturity. When she reached the age of marriage, her mother and father gave her to a man who feared God, whose name was Deme Christos.
At that time she conceived a child, whose power was from heaven and whose glory was exceeding great. From the time she conceived him until she gave birth, she did not wear clothes, nor did she need a girdle for her loins. For he performed wonderful miracles in his mother's womb, just as John the son of Zechariah did in his mother's womb. And she devoted herself to fasting and prayer until the day of her delivery.
On the 27th of August, she gave birth to this noble righteous man, despised by men but beloved by God. When he was born, there was a great celebration among his mother and father, as well as among the people of his country; and they held a feast for seven days. On the day of his birth (Christianity), this righteous man was called by the priests, Grace Christ. When God appointed him to the papacy to bind and loose all the bonds of sin, his second name was Zerah Blessed. His third name is Grace Jesus (which is often found in prayer).
After his birth, his father and mother raised him in the fear of God, in piety, and in knowledge until he was seven years old. When he was seven years old, his eyes were blinded so that he could not see the passing and perishing world. On the day their son lost his sight, his mother and father were sad; and he lived in their house for a year blind. When he was seven years old, he began to fast on Wednesdays and Fridays. When his mother and father saw him fasting at the age of seven, their sadness turned to joy.
After that, they decided to give him all the church books to teach him, knowing that if he studied the books, he would hide his shame and that he would be governed by them.
While he was learning, God brought upon him great suffering and a grievous sickness. When his father and mother saw what had happened to their son, they were filled with grief and sorrow, saying, “What will this son of ours do? How will he live in this world?” They did not realize that God had not allowed him to learn all the scriptures from anyone but Him. But this little child lived in obedience to his father and mother. And when he was twelve years old, he fasted, as the apostles had commanded in their council.
And when he was twelve years old, he fasted forty days and forty nights, the fast of our Lord. He began to fast all the fasts of our Lady Mary, who gave birth to God, and all the fasts of the apostles. His father and mother rejoiced when they saw him fast all the fasts at the age of twelve. They did not know that this child of theirs was strengthened by the grace of the Holy Spirit.
God revealed to this righteous father the books of the ancients and the books of the hadiths; the books of the scholars and the books of the monks; the apocryphal books; the things of angels and men (all the justice; and the melody of the hymns of Saint Yared); God gave these wonderful miracles to His friend, our blessed father, Abune Zera Baruk, when he was still a child.
May our Creator perform miracles for us as well; may He make us hear joy in our time of affliction; may He reveal to us all the scriptures as He revealed them to Him; may He have mercy on our souls through the righteous prayers of His sons and daughters, who remember Him, call upon His name, and supplicate in His prayer; Amen!!!
