2. Wechecha: The Sleeping Giant
To the west, the landscape swells into the massive, sprawling massif of Wechecha. Unlike the singular peaks elsewhere, Wechecha is a vast volcanic complex. Its slopes are a patchwork of Afro-alpine meadows and dense vegetation. Hikers who traverse its ridges often encounter the endemic Menelik’s bushbuck moving silently through the scrub. It acts as a massive natural reservoir, catching the rains that feed the city below, standing as a silent, hulking guardian of the western horizon.
