The Ark is not in the church. The gold is not there. The wood is not there. The angels cast in metal are not there. What is there—and what fills the void perfectly—is the profound, collective human need for the Absolute. The Ark is absent because it has transcended the physical world to become an idea, and ideas are the only things that can never be lost, stolen, or destroyed.
