Famous Buddhist Monasteries
Ivolginsky Datsan (Buryatia): Located near Ulan-Ude, this is the center of Buddhism in Russia and the residence of the Pandito Khambo Lama. Established in 1945, it is an active monastery famous for its ornate, colorful temples and for housing the incorrupt body of Lama Dashi-Dorzho Itigilov.
