Famous Russian Orthodox Monasteries
Znamensky Monastery (Irkutsk): Founded in 1689 on the banks of the Angara River, this is one of the oldest monasteries in Siberia. It is famous for its mid-18th-century Banner Church, intricate iconostases, and the historic graves of prominent 19th-century Decembrists and the famous Russian writer Valentin Rasputin.
