1- The major accident involving Ethiopian Airlines in Bahir Dar occurred on September 15, 1988; Flight 604 suffered bird ingestion in its engines during takeoff and crashed, resulting in the deaths of 35 people.

2- Ethiopian Airlines Flight 961 crashed into the Indian Ocean, near the Comoros, on November 23, 1996, following fuel exhaustion resulting from a hijacking.

3- Ethiopian Airlines Flight 409 crashed into the Mediterranean Sea, off the coast of Beirut, on January 25, 2010, resulting in the deaths of all 90 people on board.
