’60 Minutes’ Slammed for Knowingly Airing Story on Man Who Claimed to Be Gay to Avoid Deportation | Mona Khalifeh - Wed, October 28, 2026 at 6:29 PM GMT+3 - 3 min read

60 Minutes is coming under fire after profiling a married father of two who claimed to be gay on immigration documents to avoid being deported.

A Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokesperson told the New York Post on Tuesday, October 27, that CBS was informed of the seemingly fraudulent claims Moussa Diawara — who is married to a woman — made about his sexuality in his asylum application two weeks before the segment aired on the network on Sunday, October 25.

60 Minutes, which aired 57-year-old Diawara's story in a segment about immigrants being deported to "third countries" or a country other than their own country, made no mention, however, of Diawara allegedly claiming to be gay in 2012 immigration documents to avoid deportation to his native Mali over fears of discrimination.
