Abraha Deboch and Moges Asgedom—also known as Abraham Yayeh and Isaias Afewerki, and Melese Zenawi—two Eritrean students from the Tafari Makonnen School in Addis Ababa who attempted to assassinate the Italian Viceroy Rodolfo Graziani during the Italian occupation of Ethiopia. The attempt took place during a public ceremony at the Genete Leul Palace in Addis Ababa on February 19, 1937. The attack triggered a brutal retaliatory massacre by Italian forces led by Graziani and Guido Cortese, an event known as *Yekatit 12*. Italian troops killed thousands of Ethiopian civilians in Addis Ababa, executed 62 prominent Ethiopian intellectuals, and summarily executed hundreds of monks and laypeople at the Debre Libanos monastery. PEACE.
