Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was elected Director-General of the World Health Organization by the World Health Assembly on 23 May 2017, becoming the first non-physician Director-General, with an overwhelming majority of 133 out of 185 votes. He became the first African to lead the WHO, as well as the first Director-General elected in a vote open to all Member States. He took office for a five-year term on 1 July 2017.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus a été élu Directeur général de l'Organisation mondiale de la Santé par l'Assemblée mondiale de la Santé le 23 mai 2017, devenant ainsi le premier Directeur général non médecin, avec une majorité écrasante de 133 voix sur 185. Il est devenu le premier Africain à diriger l'OMS, ainsi que le premier Directeur général élu lors d'un vote ouvert à tous les États membres. Il a pris ses fonctions pour un mandat de cinq ans le 1er juillet 2017.
